New car under warranty? You can still choose the workshop

Under EU competition rules (the MV BER regulation 461/2010, extended until 31 May 2028) a manufacturer cannot make the factory warranty conditional on servicing your car only at its own dealer network.

Scheduled maintenance may be done by an independent workshop - as long as it follows the manufacturer's service schedule, uses parts of matching quality, and documents the work that was carried out.
Repairs under the warranty itself - free-of-charge fixing of a factory defect - are still done by the dealer.
The “warranty stays valid” mark is set by the workshop itself. Garag does not verify it - check the schedule and the parts with the workshop before booking.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Pre-purchase inspection

Looking at someone else's car? A nearby mechanic runs the full checklist and sends you a report with photos. You pay the workshop on site, as for any regular repair.
